Patient Education

Education begins as early as possible, and based on a family history of bleeding disorders, can begin during prenatal care. We work closely with our expecting mothers to create a customized delivery plan to help prepare mothers and families to welcome their newborns to the world. We teach and instruct families on how to administer medication safely through a mediport, central lines and peripheral infusions until patients are old enough to learn self-infusion. Furthermore, we also provide education and develop emergency plans for daycares and schools, so they are prepared in the event of injury/bleed. Even though we provide specialized care from newborn until the end of life, we also focus on the transition age to help prepare our patients to advocate for themselves – not only concerning their rare disease but in all aspects of their lives.
